Overclocking
Overclocking is the act of altering the speed and performance of computer components, most notable motherboards, processors and graphics cards. The clock frequencies are altered within a motherboards bios system - it can be a troublesome task to supply the correct amount of power and voltage to any given component. Some manufacturers of components now design and market their products with the ability to overclock them. Generally it is the more expensive motherboards which come with overclocking settings, your basic OEM has few of the advanced settings needed to safely calculate overlclocking components. Previously many manufacturers had warned users against the practice, stating that the warranty would be void and the lifespan of their product greatly reduced. When it comes to processors AMD has historically offered products that can be overclocked easier than those from Intel. This has given AMD an advantage over their primary competitor, with most overclockers and hardcore gamers only considering the latest offering from AMD.
